dc.description.abstractIs Responsive Architecture a response from the future? The current doctoral thesis has two targets: a theoretical and a practical one which are totally dependent on each other. Firstly this newly developed, though not newly defined, type of architecture is being investigated and analysed under the prism of economical and energy preservation parameters. The importance or the role of this type of architecture in the future or whether its development is just a matter of fashion is being seen through the analysis of the results provided from a number of case studies. In particular, thesis' first purpose is to prove, based on detailed comparative study and the use of the appropriate software apparatus, whether or not rotation in a building abiding by strict rules of adaptation to environmental changes (climate, season, time of day etc.) should be viewed by modern architecture as a sine-qua-non in terms of economy in energy consumption, environmental resources' preservation, achievement of high standards of living. The aforementioned benefits, if any, will be proved through the method of comparison of responsive structures to traditional ones. The second and most important purpose of the thesis is to develop and provide the prototype of a supporting software for the above described model.en
