dc.description.abstract
Due to the current economic situation small and medium sized businesses are under pressure. They are confronted with lower purchasing power and shrinking markets. This makes it particularly important to reduce costs and use existing resources more efficiently. The focus of these considerations is the IT, which represents a significant cost factor. To this end, a cost savings through the use of cloud computing can be achieved.
As part of this thesis, the feasibility of IT-based functions using cloud computing are shown. The emphasis here is on the use of so-called public clouds and the use of software, which is offered as a service (SaaS). To demonstrate feasibility, a comprehensive market analysis is created as well as two process models are developed which are applied to a given scenario.
As a result of the first process model, the appropriateness of the use of cloud computing, in dependence of internal organisation units of a company, are shown. This is followed by the second process model, which is a multidimensional evaluation matrix, made an evaluation of various cloud computing services. Based on this, a company can easily recognize if the service could or should be used.
In summary, the fields of application, as well as the appropriateness of the use of cloud computing, with regard to small and medium-sized enterprises, are presented. The process models should depict the possible ratings as well as they should universally be applicable to other companies.
