dc.description.abstract
Low-energy and passive houses are, both nationally and internationally, viewed as a major contribution to the development of sustainable energy-systems and to the reduction of green-house gases.
It should be examined, what heating and hot water systems, in such residential houses with low energy requirements, both from an environmental and from an economic perspective, are beneficial. To this end, two reference buildings, one in the low energy- and the other in passive house-insulation-standard, each with 36 or 39 different heating system variants, are defined and in-vestigated with regard to the expected cumulative energy demands, energy-related emissions and costs.
It turns out that in most studied model variants, by components such as ventilation systems with heat recovery and solar collectors, substantial savings in primary energy can be realized but also, already at a very low energy demand, due to higher energy demand in the production (keyword: gray energy), a total increase may occur. Air heating systems in passive houses have both environmental and economic benefits. The extra effort to improve the low-energy- to passive-house-insulation-standard, proved in all cases to be ecologically expedient.
