dc.description.abstract
This diploma thesis is about factor analysis with idiosyncratic errors and principal component analysis. . The diploma thesis is divided in two parts:
In the first part, we will present the factor model. We discuss the problem about transformation and the existence of unique solutions for the model parameters. Later we derive the maximum-likelihood estimators und we show how the factors can be estimated by given observations.
In the second chapter we present the principal component analysis and discuss its relation to the factor analysis. We give conditions for which the loadings of the principal component analysis converge against the loadings of the factor analysis as the number of parameters goes versus infinity.
