dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
The Sacromonte. This district is characterized by being one of the oldest and most special neighborhoods of Granada, in the south of Spain. After heavy rainfalls and floods in the winter 1963, the district, at that time consisting mainly by excavated caves in the Mount Valparaiso, it was nearly completely destroyed. Since then it carries along the consequences of that disaster. The Roma. Not only material damage occurred, but also most of its habitants were forced to live in other areas of the city. The people living in the Sacromonte were mostly Roma who were living their tradition, based on their own art, music and handcraft. The state forced them to move to the outskirts of the city. The fact that they were taken out of the caves meant that their traditional way of life was wiped out.Design. The idea of the project is to use urban strategies to revive the special essence of the troglodyte neighborhood, but adapted to the actual situation. The urban traces and its location will be taken into consideration and a new vision of the Sacromonte will be offered. It will consider both the architectural and anthropological conceptions as guide for the proposed development of the Sacromonte.
