dc.description.abstract
One of the major limiting factors in full-sphere antenna pattern characterization is truncation. Pursuing the goal of full-sphere characterization via multiple truncated radiation patterns, this paper investigates the behavior of iteratively reconstructed truncated antenna field patterns and their corresponding spherical harmonic coefficients under rotation and translation of the coordinate system. The findings indicate that manipulation of such coefficients introduces pattern distortion, however, this distortion is contained in the region near the angle of truncation. This further implies that multiple truncated patterns with sufficient overlap have the potential of serving as a basis for stitching misaligned truncated patterns to achieve full-sphere characterization of an antenna.
