Abstract:
The book introduces readers to the personality of the most prominent Lviv architects of the first half of the XXth century - Ferdynand Kassler. With his innovations, the city architecturally flourished and acquired its unique features. Urban transformations of Lviv during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and the II Polish Republic (a city that grew rapidly and experiments) have been considered. The biography of an architect, his career and professional achievements, the formation and evolution of aesthetic ideals and beliefs have been studied. Considerable attention has been paid to the importance of F. Kassler as the pioneer of modernist architecture in Galicia and his influence on the further development of Lviv. Accordingly, the monograph comprehensively covers the activities of the architect in the context of a complex and controversial era of European architecture of the first half of the XXth century.
The monograph is not only for architects, but also for those who are interested in the history of Lviv and the contribution of Jewish architects of the formation of modernism in Galicia.
