dc.description.abstract
Industry 4.0 refers to the fourth industrial revolution, focusing on intelligent manufac-turing. In order to achieve smart manufacturing processes, production and mainte-nance strategies are designed, through analysing large amounts of data. Therefore, a lot of data is captured and analysed in real-time, making it possible to determine the efficiency of a factory or the condition of a machine. By collecting and analysing all of the available data, production relevant conclusions can be drawn which can then be used to adapt the production-planning and -control. However, there is a gap when it comes to collecting and analysing textual data, that exists in form of mainte-nance reports or machine data sheets. The textual data is often present but ignored and not combined with other data. By ignoring that kind of data, the stored knowledge in these documents is lost. In case of maintenance, this can be fatal. Missing information can lead to a higher human failure rate as well as a late failure detection, since future maintenance actions cannot be supported by already written and analysed maintenance reports. In this work, a concept for knowledge extraction from textual data in the context of Industry 4.0 is presented. The therefore proposed text mining tool TU-MARS aims to achieve a human like text understandability that helps to increase the explication of human knowledge, prevent human failure and make an early failure detection possible. TU-MARS extracts information such as the readability, the sentiment and the associations from maintenance reports. For this matter in a first step, a comprehensive literature search is done covering the subject of Industry 4.0 and especially the core building blocks, the smart factory, as well as its significant key features. In the second step, the aspects of text mining are dis-cussed, especially how to extract information from text and which algorithms can be applied in order to achieve a human like text understanding. The discussion of maintenance for Industry 4.0 presents the existing maintenance strategies for intelli-gent manufacturing as well as the relevant data for maintenance. An important point is the information that can be extracted from maintenance reports written by mainte-nance employees. Hence, TU-MARS, a software prototype that is capable of analys-ing reports and calculating a value for text understandability as well as an associa-tion measuring index, is developed.

dc.description.abstract
