dc.description.abstract
Technological advances have helped companies over the years to overcome efficiency, productivity and quality challenges. The advantages that resulted were flexible, profitable and efficient solutions. Although business processes are automated with a variety of conventional automation methods and tools, research activities still reveal gaps in the automation of administrative processes in back office. Those processes are still heavily burdened with manual, tedious and time-consuming tasks and activities, which creates potential for automation. The aim of this work is to gain a deeper knowledge of Robotic Process Automation (RPA) compared to conventional technologies for the automation of administrative processes. The work examines the quantifiable effects of Robotic Process Automation on administrative processes in back office, which is demonstrated using an implemented artifact. The comparison or the evaluation of technologies for the automation of administrative processes focuses on criteria regarding the presence or absence of features, but also on the comparison regarding cost efficiency, implementation effort or autonomy. The data for the evaluation was collected from various external sources. A case study was also carried out to validate the evaluation results. The case study was conducted on a sick leave process in back office. The automated process using Robotic Process Automation was compared qualitatively and quantitatively with the purely manual process. The thesis clearly shows that through application of Robotic Process Automation on administrative processes, both financial and non-financial advantages in terms of return on investment, cost savings, complexity reduction, efficiency increase, accuracy increase, quality increase and increased employee satisfaction, can be achieved.
