dc.description.abstract
According to the revised renewable energy directive [1], the European Commission (EC) published a delegated act on how to include renewable cooling in addition to renewable heating. Therefore, a methodology for calculating "renewable cooling" and including it in the current calculation for the renewable energy shares (RES) and renewable energy shares for heating and cooling (RES-HC) was developed. This paper aims to answer the question of what impact this new definition for renewable cooling will have on the renewable energy shares of each European Member State. This is done by:
1) presenting the renewable cooling definition as it is being implemented in the updated RED
2) calculating the immediate impact on the RES and RES HC today
3) elaborating on the impact of renewable cooling in different future scenarios, namely in the years 2030 and 2050, including an analysis of parameter variation to take care of related uncertainties.
