dc.description.abstract
Combustion of fossil fuels (oil, gas and coal) results in carbon dioxide (a potent greenhouse gas) emissions which accelerate global warming resulting in a high impact on our environment and life on earth. Reducing the emissions is one way to tackle this issue. However, now a waste product, carbon dioxide can also be a chemical feedstock for the synthesis of other chemicals. Electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide to value-added chemicals is an efficient way to realize this goal. One of the biggest challenges of electrochemical CO2 reduction is the search for suitable catalysts. Metal organic chalcogenolate assemblies (MOCHAs) are a highly interesting class of semiconducting inorganic–organic hybrid coordination polymers, which show outstanding optoelectronic properties. In this talk, the synthesis of MOCHAs as well as their characterization and catalytic properties for carbon dioxide reduction will be presented.
