This research project was partnered by CADFEM (Austria) GmbH and Pankl Racing Systems. The main purpose was to investigate the possibilities of integrating multibody simulation into the design process of high performance sportscar suspension systems at Pankl. In a first glance, a delineation of the product development process and possible benefits of integrating simulation was provided. Furthermore, the fundamentals of multibody dynamics as the foundation of multibody simulation were covered. To conclude the theoretical framework, a review of the basics of suspension systems was carried out. For this purpose, aspects of the most essential components of a double wishbone suspension were laid out.The main part of the thesis is the elaboration of applications of multibody simulation in the design process of suspension components. Three different types of simulations at different stages of the development process were declared and presented with a demonstration geometry. The most important aspects and the resulting advantages were described. Finally, options for validating the simulations were presented in a short form.
