We propose a technique to model fragmentation within the concept and structure of a hybrid lumped-mass rockfall code. Our target is to develop a fragmentation module characterized by its simplicity, ease of use and calibration. Data-sets from actual drop-tests, showcasing intense fragmentation, have been used to explore the applicability of the method. Drop-test conduct-ed at Liechtensteinklamm, a gorge environment situated in Austria, where geology and site geometry create favorable conditions for highly fragmental rockfall. WURF a rockfall code based on hyperbolic restitution factors and stochastic ground roughness has been used for exact simulations of these tests. By considering fragmentation, reasonable stochastic approxi-mations of the rockfall trajectories have been obtained almost in all dimensions, including ve-locities, bounce heights and lengths as well as fragment size distribution.
