dc.description.abstract
In this thesis, the frame of a motorcycle, which is often assumed to be rigid, is split up into segments with additional degrees of freedom in order to describe its flexibility in a vehicle dynamics simulation. For this purpose, based on a CAD model of the entire vehicle, finite element and multi-body system analyses are used to create a model that can be used in multibody analysis in a time- and resource-saving manner. At the same time, the influence of the flexibility of the frame on the motorcycle stability will be investigated. After an extensive literature research, in which the effects of the flexibilities of the three most important components (frame, fork and swingarm) on the motorcycle dynamics were investigated, important simplifications could be made in a preliminary study and the torsion of the frame could be identified as the main influencing factor. Following the breakdown of the complete vehicle into subassemblies and weight adjustments based on real measured mass properties, the complete model is composed in the FE environment. By means of a modal analysis, the natural modes of vibration and natural frequencies of the most important deformations (torsion of main and rear frame) were then identified. By choosing a suitable approach, the main and rear frame could then be divided and the final values for the replacement model were determined. The positions of the torsional axes and their corresponding stiffness values were tuned using the results of the modal analysis (natural modes of vibration and natural frequency). Finally, comparisons with real measurement runs were carried out to validate the developed simulation model. For this purpose, a multibody model was implemented in ADAMS and a good correlation with the measured values was found. A discussion of the occurring deviations concludes this work.
