dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
High-Entropy-Alloys (HEAs) have gained increasing importance in recent years. In theory, they are promising in minimizing problems of conventional alloys, while desirable properties could be improved according to the intended use. HEAs are produced by induction melting and subsequently phase formations and properties are investigated by adding further elements. The theoretically predicted phases from Thermo-Calc are verified by X-ray diffraction measurements, metallography and subsequent LOM- and SEM- investigations. The melting point of the produced alloys is analyzed by DTA measurements and also compared to the theoretically predicted one. Current-density-potential curves provide information on the passivability and corrosion resistance of the produced multi-component alloys. The results provide an overview of phase formations and properties of HEAs. It is shown that theoretical phase-diagrams calculated with Thermo-Calc can be a very good approximation, although the produced alloys usually contain fewer phases. Furthermore,a trend towards higher Vickers hardness could be determined, the more elements were added to the alloy. In testing of the corrosion resistance, it was found that two alloys - CoNiFeCr and CoNiFe10wt%Cr - are good passive layer formers and show improved corrosion resistance compared to other HEAs or the reference samples of pure Co, pure Ni and Co+10wt%Cr.
