dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
Several adsorbents for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture from flue gas are investigated in this thesis. First, some criteria for characterization of adsorption behaviour are established. Then those criteria are used to screen scientific literature about six important classes of adsorbents (zeolithes, activated carbons, metal-organic-frameworks, amines physisorbed to oxide supports, amines covalently tethered to oxide supports and alkali-metal-based materials) and characterize them. Afterwards, a selection of those adsorbents is procured for laboratory investigation. Those adsorbents are zeolithe 13X, activated carbon and activated carbon loaded with 10 wt% potassium carbonate (K2CO3). The adsorbents are investigated in a fixed-bed adsorber with varying temperature (25|70|140 °C), CO2-partial pressure (0,02|0,05|0,1 bar) and moisture (dry|moist) at Technical University Wien. Afterwards, the findings are presented and examined for trends. No clear recommendation for a single of those adsorbents can be made based on this work.
