Almost every car OEM and numerous new manufacturers have at least one BEV passenger car model on their product portfolio (as shown in the study), and ndergo investments in research & development in this area. Even though a trade off is well in sight, nowadays the ownership of a BEV is still not worth it compared to owning a conventional car. National and international government incentives and policies have highly contributed to achieve nowadays interest in BEVs and level of technological development. Norway is the country with most electric vehicles on the road in Europe; Germany doesn't provide purchase subsidies, but invests primarily in research & development. All considered countries have short-term policies: tax grants, purchase subsidies, etc end in 2012 or 2013. We would like to highlight though the need for stable and long-term policies, in order to achieve a large-scale adoption and deployment of battery electric vehicles.
