dc.description.abstract

In recent years a tremendous growth in the wireless sensor network market have taken place. Current and coming legislations all over the world already acknowledge the huge potential of wireless monitoring technology in safety applications throughout many domains including automotive, industrial, environmental and infrastructure safety. To overcome limiting factors as too high energy consumption in order to create self-sufficient and maintenance-free wireless sensor networks novel design approaches have to be implemented. This thesis contributes to the streamlined design and development of both energy efficient and low-power hardware and software by proposing a generic approach enabling the performant co-simulation of wireless sensor network hardware and software on different levels of architectural detail in order to enable wireless sensor system engineers to conduct early power consumption simulation in an efficient manner throughout the design cycle with the ultimate goal of fast design space exploration.
