dc.description.abstract
A small-scale adsorption cooling system of 7.5 kW driven entirely by solar power was monitored and simulated. The goal of the present investigation is to evaluate the actual and possible performance of the solar cooling system by analyzing the monitoring data and simulating various modifications to the system, mainly by altering the control strategy. Identifying the parts of the system most in need of improvement by evaluating monitored field data advances the understanding of the operation behavior of adsorption chillers in solar-autonomous cooling systems. Furthermore, the solar cooling system is modeled in the transient simulation environment TRNSYS and simulated and measured data of the solar cooling system are evaluated and compared. The limitations to dynamic simulations of solar adsorption cooling systems with current models is quantified and measures for improvement are given.
