dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
Several investigations are carried out to determine the influence of different thermo-mechanical process routes on the microstructure. Deformation after the phase transformation beta->alpha during cooling is studied with different amounts of alpha phase.
Exothermic peak obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) cannot be correlated to 100% of alpha transformed. Deformation after cooling shows influence of the amount of alpha phase on the flow curves, observing more softening with samples with more amount of alpha.
Transformed alpha at the grain boundaries and lamellas can not help to stimulate grain formation in the beta phase. Dynamic globularization of alpha lamellas is observed at larger values of strain. Retarding of the nucleation and growing of alpha grains is observed.
Different starting microstructures are analyzed during and after deformation by "in situ" synchrotron diffraction to determine the mechanism of deformation and the evolution of the microstructure during post deformation heat treatment. These results are correlated by microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction. Deformation in the beta field shows subgrains formation and formation of new grains, denoting dynamic recovery as the main mechanism of restoration and observation of dynamic recrystallization. The strain rate influences not only the flow behavior but also the rate of static recrystallization and grain size in the heat treatment carried out immediately after deformation.
Deformation in the alpha+beta field with lamellae structure at 900°C shows subgrain formation, grain rotation and dynamic globularization, also kinking effect is observed. When raising the deformation temperature to 930°C dynamic recristallisation occurs additionally in the beta phase. In globular microstructure the generation of subgrain boundarys, grain rotation and development of textures are determined.
