Influence of player preferences on the game "Lotto 6 aus 45"

Abstract

The change of the game conditions of "Lotto 6 aus 45" in September 2010 with the introduction of new prize levels has given rise to questions concerning the variability of the number of hits per prize level from round to round. While previous publications have already studied player preferences and modeled their influence on various aspects of the game, none were as comprehensive as the approach developed in this thesis.<br />We present previous findings, show that a direct calculation of several characteristic features is not feasible and instead develop a C++ program, that allows a realstic simulation of the actual game itself. We dicuss different ways to create tipsets based on player preferences and the benefits and drawbacks of various software design patterns. Finally we calculate the necessary parameters for our simulation and compare its results to actual results in the past.
