dc.description.abstract
This diploma thesis presents the development of a new hand rehabilitation device for stroke therapy, using a wire driven thumb actuation ring for thumb opposition. The system has 4 degrees of freedom actuated by stepper motors and enables flexion/extension of all five digits and the opposition/reposition of the thumb in a way to grasp and hold real objects. The developed prototype consists of a control unit and a cable connected mobile actuation unit. Therefore the mobility for therapy is less restricted than with stationary devices. For triggering the motion sequences, several switches mounted on the actuation unit are used. Therefore the healthy hand can support and control the movement.
