dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
We deal with the most important definitions and theorems in stochastic control theory and apply these results to determine optimal dividend payment strategies for an insurance company. We will assume that this company models its endowment by simple diffusion process. As a criterion for optimality we will use the expected value of discounted dividends until time of ruin. We will distinguish two cases whether the according time horizon is finite or not.
In both models the optimal strategy is given by a barrier strategy. In the former model the optimal barrier is constant and has an explicit solution, while in the latter model this barrier depends on time and has no explicit solution. It is characterized by integral-equation, which we will solve numerically.
