dc.description.abstract
The aim of this thesis is to transmit tactile information from the vehicle seat to the driver. The main objective is to develop an active, haptic vehicle seat by constructing the actuators without changing the seat comfort. New, innovative fields of application are also discussed in this research. Furthermore, my research focuses on the often neglected meaning of haptic in a vehicle. An incen-tive of this thesis is to combine the audio-tactile sound and the operating parameters of a vehicle, basically in the seat area. The discovery of audio-tactile sound in the vehicle seat is an essential fea-ture in order to improve driving enjoyment and dynamics. Audible and visual alarms in cars often go hand in hand with sensory overload, so the vehicle seat developed in the course of this research also offers further incentives to prevent this overstimulation. Additional haptic warning signals can cut down the reaction time by one third. Specific stimulation of the haptic receptor cells, in addition to a well-adjusted electromechanical system can therefore have an enormous impact on driving comfort and safety. Generally, the product development is based on engineering principles. In all stages of the product development, the methodical approach is built on the VDI-guideline 2221, "Systematic approach to the development and design of technical systems and products", and Pahl&Beitz' "Konstruktionslehre", which deals with methods of developing a product. The first section of this thesis comprises a theoretical introduction to haptics and an analysis of the current state of art, so to later generate methodical and creative ideas and thus redefine it. Furthermore, a summary of product characteristics results in a list of requirements. The next section deals with creating a functional structure and a corresponding operating structure.
Systematic combinations and iterative approaches provide an enormous variety of solutions. Subsequently, all solutions lead to one concept by applying the selection process of Pahl/Beitz, UN/ECE-guidelines and the evaluation method of VDI 2225. A detailed perceptions range of the development also deals with the effects of mechanical vibrations and whole-body vibrations on the health of humans. For the modelling of the design, which was carried out with the help of Catia (see picture 1), electrodynamic actors are placed in the seat back. Furthermore, a prototype is built. On the basis of this prototype, all the relevant features can be tested and simulated.
