dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
For processing geodetic space observations such as GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems) and VLBI (Very Long Baseline Interferometry) the determination of tropospheric delays is essential.<br />In particular values for the hydrostatic zenith delays - calculated from the pressure at the station - and the hydrostatic and wet mapping functions are required. In this thesis, a new empirical model called GPT2 is presented, which should replace the existing models GPT (Global Pressure and Temperature) and GMF (Global Mapping Functions). Input parameters are the coordinates of the site and the modified Julian date. Based on the meteorological data of the numerical weather model (NWM) ERA-Interim of the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) the mean as well as the annual and semi-annual variations of pressure, temperature, humidity and temperature gradient are determined.<br />The coefficients of the Vienna Mapping Functions (VMF1) are treated in a similar manner. The choice of the horizontal resolution (5 x 5) and the interpolation method between the grid points (bilinear interpolation) is taken by comparing different resolutions and interpolation methods. GPT2 and the existing model GPT are compared and the greatest differences of resulting station heights (max. 8.4 mm, around 95% below 2 mm) are at the Antartica, at the coasts and in the mountains. A comparison of GPT2 with in-situ pressure observations confi rms that GPT2 is an improvement over GPT, and can be used for the determination of troposphere delays in geodetic techniques.
