The problems of the diesel engine with regard to the NOx-Particle trade-off are well known, but not the only reasons for research into future technologies. The effort to increase efficiency is an important point, as well as the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions, which play a decisive role in relation to climate change. For the last one, biogenic fuels offer a great potential due to their neutral CO2 balance. When it comes to efficiency, development will hit the top soon, energy recovery is one option that still offers potential. To cover all of these points, thermochemical recuperation in the form of fuel reforming using exhaust gas heat is ideal. On the one hand, biofuels are well suited for reforming and, on the other hand, there is also the possibility of positively influencing the NOx-Particle trade-off. In this thesis the injection of synthesis gas and its effects on a single-cylinder test engine in dual-fuel operation with diesel is investigated. The synthesis gas, a gas whose main components are hydrogen and carbon monoxide, is gained via exhaust gas reforming, which was only simulated and the corresponding gas composition itself being mixed. A composition is being investigated that is based on the complete reformation of (bio) ethanol, in order to obtain information about the behavior of oxygen-containing diesel substitute fuels. A partial load point at 5 pmi and a at full load point at 15 pmi, each at 1500 min-1 are examined. In addition to the investigation of the burning behavior and emissions, a detailed analysis of the efficiency was carried out.
