dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
Considering that the word produce, not only means the production of specific results or material goods, but also includes an inventive and creative achievement, inherently suggests integrating these processes into the urban fabric as well as possible. The pressure on new urban development areas in terms of climatic, infrastructural and social aspects is noticeably greater and calls for new and more comprehensive strategies. The workshop report 171, shot at by the municipal council, paved the way for innovative approaches in the area of linking residential areas and themanufacturing or commercial sector for Vienna as well. However, production areas continue to be pushed to the periphery of cities and even with large steps in the conversion to environmentally friendly and low-emission production systems, the stigma of dirty and disruptive industry continues to exist. The selected planning area on the southern edge of the historic Arsenal site serves as a starting point for a discussion about the intersection(s) between living and working, research, production and commerce. The connection to the TU Science Center, which is currently being completed, and the link to the newly built Sonnwendviertel can be seen as interesting setting.
