dc.description.abstract

dc.description.abstract
This thesis covers the area of early product development in which the product life cycle phases from the product idea to the conceptual phase were designed using methodological approaches. Background of this work represents the Berndorf Band Group, a company that is specialized in the engineering and manufacturing of steel belts and steel belt systems. The theoretical basis for the procedure within the thesis is based on methods used in the early stages of product development; also including aspects of innovation management. By doing so the focus has been tailored on the systematic approach, on screening and evaluation methods. By analyzing these methods in the first part of the thesis, a general method for evaluating innovative ideas within the Berndorf Band Group was introduced. In the second part of the work a drive solution for a belt system could be found by using the methodical approach within the early product development. Therefore a solution neutral requirement list has been prepared in the first step. Subsequently, the functional structure of the driving system was set up, for which active principles where found. These were collected in the form of a morphological box out of which several possible principal solutions could be derived. By concretizing the principal solutions advantages and disadvantages were formulated. Finally, these solutions are evaluated though a point rating which represents the degree of fulfilment of a theoretical ideal solution. Here, two principal solutions have been evaluated as very promising.
