Holz ist längst als nachhaltiges Baumaterial bekannt. Angesichts der zunehmenden Knappheit von Bauholz durch rapide Abholzung vermeiden Architekten und Bauherren in Indonesien jedoch den Einsatz dieses Baumaterials. Architekten und Bauherren sollten jedoch davon überzeugt werden, sich für nachhaltiges Holzbauweisen zu entscheiden, um hiermit verantwortungsbewusst zu Wiederaufforstungen anzuregen. Wiederaufforstung war schon früher von indigenen Baumeistern propagiert worden. Bedauerlicherweise haben sich Tradition und Kultur durch die modernen Entwicklungen zu überaus komplexen Bereichen entwickelt, deren Unüberschaubarkeit darin mündet, dass frühere Traditionen wie beispielsweise die Aufforstung mit endemischen Baumarten nicht weitergeführt werden. In Anbetracht des immer rascher fortschreitenden Klimawandels müssen wir diese Versäumnisse aufholen, und als ersten Schritt auf dem Weg zur Veränderung die Neuanpflanzung einheimischer Baumarten vorantreiben, in der Absicht, Anpflanzungen von schnell wachsendem Holz nicht zu forcieren und eine Wiederholung der in der Vergangenheit betriebenen Ausbeutung endemischer Holzarten zu vermeiden. Die einheimischen Holzarten weisen erprobte Eigenschaften von Haltbarkeit, Festigkeit und Härte auf, die sich sowohl in trockenem wie auch in feuchtem Bauland (wie beispielsweise im Wasser oder in Sumpfgebieten} bewährt haben, und auch die beste Wahl für Standorte darstellen, die durch Überschwemmungen oder Erdbeben gefährdet sind, wie dies an indigenen Holzbauweisen bewiesen werden kann. Von derartigen Bauweisen ist man jedoch abgekommen, und sie haben ihren Bezug zu Landschaft und Lebensweise verloren. Umso mehr spielt die Wiederanpflanzung und Wiederaufforstung dieser Arten unter Beibehaltung ihrer biologischen Vielfalt eine wichtige Rolle für den Schutz menschlicher Siedlungen (vor Naturkatastrophen, Krankheiten, Überschwemmungen, Tsunamis und vor Umweltverschmutzung}, sowie für Trinkwasserversorgung und Gesundheitsvorsorge. Vor diesem Hintergrund untersucht die Studie auch Kenntnisse und Erfahrungen, die in anderen Regionen und Ländern gewonnen und weiterentwickelt wurden, wie etwa in Österreich, wo Waldgebiete fachgerecht erhalten und bewirtschaftet werden, und wo sich der Holzbau technologisch etabliert hat, indem er von traditionellen Bauweisen in moderne Anwendungen transferiert wurde. Forschungsmethode im thematischen Bereich Indonesien: 1) Untersuchung der Holzarten in Österreich, ihrer Anwendung in traditionellen und modernen Baukonstruktionen, sowie der Hintergründe der optimalen Nutzung von wenigen Holzarten einschließlich forstwirtschaftlicher und technologischer Faktoren. 2} Auflistung der Namen der einheimischen Holzarten und Untersuchung ihrer Eigenschaften. 3) Untersuchungen, wie diese Holzarten verwendet und in verschiedenen Baukonstruktionen eingesetzt wurden (mit Beispielen}, an unterschiedlichen Standorten wie beispielsweise auf weichem Untergrund, auf Sumpfboden, auf festem Untergrund, im Wasser, auf dem Wasser und in Überschwemmungsgebieten. Untersuchung von Methoden des Holzfällens, des Entrindens und umweltverträglicher Holzbehandlungsmethoden. 4} Aktualisierung von Technologie und Praxis der Forstwirtschaft, um die Verwendung nachhaltigen Holzbaumaterials zu unterstützen. Forschungsmethode im thematischen Bereich Österreich: 1) Untersuchung der Holzarten in Österreich, ihrer Anwendung in traditionellen und modernen Baukonstruktionen, und den Hintergrund, der die optimale Entwicklung der wenigen verschiedenen Holzarten einschließlich Waldbewirtschaftungs- und Technologiefaktoren ermöglicht. 2} Untersuchung verschiedener weiterentwickelter Formen von Holzbauelementen, deren Verwendung über den traditionellen Einsatz hinausgeht und damit Möglichkeiten zu groß dimensionierten Gebäuden bietet, sowie Erfordernissen der Brandsicherheit entspricht. 3} Informationssammlung über Methoden des Holzfällens, der Verarbeitung und der Behandlung von Holzmaterial im Hinblick auf Auswirkungen auf Umwelt und Energiehaushalt. Letztendlich lässt der Vergleich keine Entscheidung darüber zu, welches Land den besten Weg geht, aber es konnten damit die Unterschiede hinsichtlich der regionalen Ressourcen, der Wahl von Möglichkeiten und bestehender Einschränkungen herausgearbeitet werden. Beide Kulturregionen können voneinander lernen, Schwierigkeiten zu überwinden, die sich der Weiterentwicklung der Holzbautechnologie in den Weg stellen.
