We are using a transmission electron microscope (TEM) to coherently illuminate a thin membrane of crystalline silicon with a broad, collimated electron beam. When impinging on the the sample, electrons emit cathodoluminescence (CL) photons and are deflected by an angle 𝜃e. This process fulfills energy-momentum conservation.
To correlate coincident electrons and photons, both particles need to individually detected and temporally resolved. Each detection event for both electron and photon is labeled with a time stamp. The corresponding device clocks are synchronized to a shared external synchronization signal.
