dc.description.abstract
In the present thesis three possibilities for recycling of tungsten-copper-scraps were investigated: (1) the ammoniacal dissolution process, (2) the thermal oxidation process and (3) the sulphuric acid leaching process.
The ammoniacal dissolution process is applicable for tungsten-copper soft scraps, but also for tungsten-copper hard scraps. Copper has to be separated from the resulting ammoniacal tungsten-copper solutions, to be able to return the recycled tungsten to the hydrometallurgical production process. Four different processing routes of separation were investigated: the precipitation of copper-hydroxide with sodium hydroxide, the liquid/liquid-extraction using a chelating extractant, the precipitation of copper-sulfide and finally the ion exchange of Cu2+-ions with H+-ions. The precipitation of copper-hydroxide leads to a solution of Na2WO4 and a precipitate of black CuO whereas, (NH4)2WO4-solutions are obtained in the other cases.
Tungsten-copper soft scraps with tungsten contents larger than 80%, can be oxidized to WO3 and CuWO4 at temperatures around 500-600°C. The rate of oxidation and its completeness depends on the tungsten-copper content of the soft scraps.
The sulphuric acid leaching process is applicable for the copper-leaching out of tungsten-copper soft scraps.
