The diploma is about a retreat for people with cancer in a post-industrial Victorian neighbourhood. It locates in an abandoned Loco Shed in Bedford. The Loco Shed and the beside industrial site had shaped the neighbourhood. Hence the shed was left; it was not anymore part of a community. That story had reminded the situation of a person with cancer who had become the project ́s protagonist. With the description of people with cancer, it was not mentioned only cancer patients but also cancer relatives. Although the centre point of the user profile is people with cancer, the retreat is also for locals, neighbours, tourists, and nature. The diploma work focuses on the co-existence of several subjects in oneness for unification. Hence the relationship between ruler, user, object and time has an essential role; it is necessary to say that there should be a specific order of fabrics, i.e. degrees of objectivity and the subject. The diploma work is divided into three parts; prolegomenon, context and design. The book begins with the importance of healing in architecture and objects, especially for our mental health. It later demonstrates why and how it should also act in daily life by using two architecture theories of structuralism and adhocism. This part ends with a built example, Villa Muller from Adolf Loos, with my views for how the end-object and the subject(s) unite each other. The second part focused on the building context; Bedford, from the medieval house Alfriston Clergy House to the neighbourhood of Ford End Road and most importantly Maggie ́s Centres. This part also includes the existing building ́s plan materials. It ends with three main design elements, i.e. mass-produced house, back garden and wall, based on the leading example of Hofburg Palace in Vienna, representing how several houses take part under a single roof. At the same time, how this oneness fills its district as well as breathe out from it.In the last part, there is a design proposal as a summary of the before-mentioned topics. The project is about co-existence(s); there is an essential but secondary and binding element of frames like scaffolding. Its jointings and openings make a specific language and gesture from all project, i.e. every particular evolves into a oneness. The co-existences between subjects is widespread in the stages of isolating and socializing.
