dc.description.abstract
dc.description.abstract
The aim of this thesis was to determine long -time trends in depositions as well as seasonal distribution of concentration and deposition using the monthly concentration data of SO42-, NH4+, NO3-, Cl-, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+ and Na+ compounds at 15 stations in Austria raging from 1983 to 2007. Special attention was directed toward the main components nitrate, ammonium and sulphate. In addition the deposition in Austria was compared with the emission. The sulphate deposition decreased at all stations, while that from nitrate and ammonium almost remained the same. A comparison of the yearly variations showed high concentrations in all stations in April. Furthermore for all components except Na+ and Cl- a summer high and a winter low were determined at the alpine stations while at the other stations the concentration ranged above average in winter and below average in summer. On the other hand the depositions were higher in the summer at all stations and for all components. A comparison of the deposition with the emission in Austria (1990 to 2005) showed a parallel decrease of the sulphur emission and deposition, while emission and deposition of N-related components stayed roughly the same.
