dc.description
The exhibition portrays the relationship between nature and architecture through its two sub-exhibitions, “Chepchep-San-Jung (inmost recess of mountain layers)” and “ARC-HEST (Architecture for Human Environment with Smart Technologies)”. Chepchep-San-Jung observes the natural elements, mountains and water, of both South Korea and Switzerland. ARC-HEST is an interdisciplinary architecture workshop organized by the Swiss Embassy. For this exhibition, six participants were chosen to come together and construct human-focused indoor spaces, integrating building, environmental, and smart technologies. The exhibition is part of the events that celebrate the 60th Anniversary of Korea - Switzerland Diplomatic Relations Exchange. It is funded by Embassy of Switzerland in the Republic of Korea and the Architecture Planning
Division of Seoul Metropolitan Government.

dc.description.abstract
By examining the landscape restoration of Namsan, Naksan, and Inwangsan, the research project Cultural Laboratory Seoul reveals different perspectives on the inner mountains of Seoul. The diverging views revolve around the hypothesis that mountains do not represent a neutral space. They are expressions of changing ideologies, as well as cultural and political ruptures. Mountains are charged with memories, emotions, material and immaterial values, interpretations and meanings from the past. In the end, the restoration of the inner mountains mirrors not only an intimate relationship with nature, but also the struggle over competing Korean identities.
