Abstract:

The issue of climate change and the scarcity of resources have never been as present as they are today. The construction industry contributes significantly to this, due to the high construction output, the sharply increasing demand for raw materials and the often practiced linear economy. In addition, construction and demolition waste accounts for the bulk of waste generation. In addition, socio-demographic structural change and changing living conditions require new and diverse residential concepts in architecture. The diploma thesis deals with the above-mentioned topic and offers a solution, how a recycling-oriented material management can counteract the scarcity of resources and the generation of waste. The aim is to design a multigenerational residential building in a resource-efficient and circular economy friendly construction method. This includes future-oriented living and household forms in order to respond to changing living conditions. The work is based on a literature research. The aspects of social sustainability in residential buildings are mentioned and the concept of intergenerational living is explained. Furthermore, reference is made to the circular economy as a solution for resource conservation and waste prevention. For this purpose, the building materials are examined for their potential for circulation and solvable constructions are explained. The implementation of social and environmental sustainability is analysed again on the basis of three existing multi-generational residential buildings. The findings are then implemented in a design for a multigenerational residential building. The building offers space for 48 flats with flexibly designed living units of different sizes. Spacious communal areas promote active neighborhood among the residents. In terms of resource conservation and circular economy, the focus is on an ecological choice of materials and a high potential for reuse of building materials. For this purpose, a life cycle analysis was calculated for different components and their circulation potential was investigated and compared. The study shows that timber constructions represent the greatest potential for resource-saving and recycling-friendly constructions.
