Der vorliegende Artikel beleuchtet, wie sehr lokalspezifische und nationale Ereignisse etwa die soziale und wirtschaftliche Krise in Argentinien im Jahr 2001 sowohl mit lateinamerikanischen Widerstandsbewegungen als auch globalen, neoliberalen Tendenzen verknüpft sind. Der Blick auf lange Zeitabschnitte dieser movimientos sociales del habitat verdeutlicht, wie sich der Kampf für angemessenen Wohnraum um Inhalte der Kultur, Arbeit, Gesundheit und Bildung in den Nachbarschaften und darüber hinaus erweiterte. Kristin Ross (2021) rekonstruiert in ihrem Buch Luxus für alle die erstaunliche Aktualität rund um Themen der Pariser Kommune 1871 und auch in der hier vorgestellten urbanen sozialen Bewegung werden die Versuche deutlich, die traditionelle Frauenrolle und die hierarchische Trennung von Kopf- und Handarbeit zu überwinden, Selbstverwaltung zu praktizieren, sich international zu vernetzen sowie schöne, großzügige Wohnräume für alle zu ermöglichen.
