Cross-property and public welfare-beneficial interventions are an innovative approach
for an updated socio-ecological urban renewal. However, the actors involved, especially
the powerful owners, are as diverse as their interests. In this article, the logics of action
and socio-biographical concerns of the owners involved in the research project Pocket
Mannerhatten Ottakring (PMO) are presented and analyzed on the basis of two projects.
The basis for this is the focused ethnography and identity theory together with a property
and ownership typology developed in the project, along which the motives for action of
owners can be classified and explained. Our investigation makes it clear that significantly
more resources must be made available to the social processes in such projects; both in
a research and development project, as well as in the context of a public funded renewal.
