Urban Planning, Heritage Conservation and 4 Occupying Powers: Actors and Strategies of Reconstruction in Post-War-Vienna
1. Introduction I: War destruction in Austria and Vienna
2. Introduction II: Actors - Reconstruction Commission, Federal Monuments Authority and Occupying Powers
3. Archival material: "localisation of heritage" through mapping and inventories - examples
4. Interactive part: joint critical analysis of archival material and other sources
5. examples of reconstruction (buildings and areas) and discussion
- The aim is to discuss the transformation of cities in the course of war destruction and reconstruction
- To show you how built heritage was discussed at the time
- what was the role of the actors of the time (city administration, occupying powers, federal Monuments Office)
- familiarise work with maps and archival material
- show you what can be gleaned from historical sources
