dc.description.abstract
The city is becoming smart. In the coming decades, digital technologies should make the urban environment more intelligent and thus more efficient. The role of its inhabitants still needs to be explored. This thesis shows possibilities of how digitalisation can be used for the benefit of the population to collectively create individual living space in a densely built environment. For this purpose, the established form of hacking in computer science is ported into architecture. After discussing the principle of hacking, examples will be used to illustrate how interventions by individuals take place on various levels of action in architecture. At a prototypical location, the Seestadt Aspern, a system architecture will be developed that is open to the hacks of its future users. Finally, a fictitious setting will demonstrate its potential.
