Abstract

Linz. Vielerorts auch unter dem Namen ‚Stahlstadt‘ bekannt. Eine florierende Industriekultur, welche durch ihre Vergangenheit stark geprägt wurde. Mit der zentrumsnahen Situierung, der gewerblich-industriellen Funktion, stehen auch unzählige Arbeitsplätze aus der gesamten Umgebung in Verbindung. Der Standort profitiert von einer schnellen, direkten und öffentlichen Anbindung zur Innenstadt. Die Industriezeile, welche parallel zur Mühlkreisautobahn verläuft, bildet dabei die Hauptverkehrsachse und gliedert das gemischt genutzte Gebiet. Mittendrin ein Kleingartenverein, Flugplatz, Motor-Yacht-Club, sowie der allseits bekannte Kulturstandort, Posthof Linz. Eine Koexistenz aus vielfältigen Strukturen und Funktionen, welche das Potenzial der Umgebung verdeutlichen. Mit Hinblick auf die Herausforderungen des 21. The location benefits from rapid, direct, and public access to the city center, with the Industriezeile acting as the main traffic axis, running parallel to the motorway and connecting the mixed-use area. At its core, there is a coexistence of diverse structures and functions, including an allotment garden association, an airfield, a motor yacht club, and the well-known cultural venue, Posthof Linz. This interplay underlines the latent potential of the surroundings. In the context of 21st-century challenges, such as adapting to climate change, managing increasing resource consumption, and addressing land scarcity, a reorientation at all levels becomes imperative. The idea of transformation emerges, contemplating the possibilities. What if...? A mixed-use approach inspired by the Parisian model of the 15-Minute City, promoting a city of short distances, is considered. As a countermeasure to urban sprawl, its associated impacts and the effects on daily commuter traffic, sustainable neighbourhood development emerges as a potential solution. To foster an understanding of existing relationships and lay the foundation for potential transformation, attention is drawn to the history and current trends in urban planning, alongside contextual analysis. Special emphasis is placed on the integration of production and residential areas, as well as the formulation of an overarching mobility and green space concept. Preserving historically and valuable structures and incorporating existing, operational uses are key aspects. The main goal is to strike a balance between all these factors and to try to achieve a sustainable urban expansion.
