dc.description.abstract
Learning Management Systems (LMS) are inevitable in the IT landscape of higher education institutions. In this paper we focus on identifying the factors that play a key role in shaping the effectiveness and success of such systems in educational settings. The factors presented are based not only on a review of the literature but also on years of insight and practical experience from an e-learning expert. Examples of key drivers are on the one hand, the right balance between focusing on both the management level (stakeholders) and the end user level (teachers and students) needs to be achieved. There is also a need to ensure continuous and reliable development and user support. In addition to building alliances and networks with other institutions, power users, etc., also the integration of internal and external tools is key. If open-source software is used as a basis, it is important to ensure commitment, active participation and continuous exchange within the community. In addition to ensuring good usability for the majority of users, continuous monitoring of current developments and trending topics in society is of high importance. Ensuring all aspects of the paper will increase the readiness of the LMS for the next decades.
