In this paper, we present the synthetic pathway for the preparation of a new class of BODIPY-substituted tetrazoles using the previous presented omega-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl) carboxylic acids as precursors. This allows for the preparation of fluorescent tetrazole ligands combining the well-known fluorescent 4,4-difluoro-4-bora-3a,4a-diaza-s-indacene (BODIPY) moiety with the coordinating tetrazole moiety. Upon complexation the new fluorescent iron(II) spin crossover complex [Fe(2TzBODIPY)4(MeCN)2](ClO4)2 was prepared.
