We present an experimental investigation of an additional parasitic broadband radiation in continuous-wave (CW) THz photomixing systems. The additional radiation lies between 50 and 300 GHz with a power level reaching tens of nW. The additional radiation could represent a potential obstacle to using photomixing systems in conjunction with or as a characterization tool for broadband THz power detectors. Our study indicates that this additional radiation is a common problem in CW photomixing systems; it is not specific to the particular photomixers or lasers we used in this investigation.
