The design and operational principles governing alldielectric metasurfaces, operating in the 4 ~ 8 µm mid-infrared band and customizable for gas and liquid sensing, are presented. A comparative analysis of silicon meta-atoms on CaF 2 or Si 3 N 4 substrates and optimization towards enhanced infrared absorption are provided.
