In war-torn Ukraine, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) face unprecedented challenges, from disrupted supply chains to geopolitical instability, threatening their survival. This study explores the concept of strategic capability redeployment—a critical approach enabling businesses to reallocate and optimize resources, skills, and competencies to navigate crises and seize new opportunities. The thesis investigates the unique challenges and resilience strategies of Ukrainian SMEs amidst wartime conditions, emphasizing the role of technology adoption, organizational adaptability, and international support in maintaining operations.Key themes such as supply chain disruptions, technological adaptation, human capital management, and customer engagement were identified through qualitative research, including semi-structured interviews with SME decision-makers across various sectors. The study reveals how enterprises diversified supply chains, implemented advanced logistics management systems and enhanced remote work capabilities alongside cybersecurity measures. These strategies illustrate the importance of resilience and adaptability for ensuring business continuity during crises. The findings highlight that redeployment strategies must involve both tangible and intangible resources. Strategic decisions, guided by frameworks like the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Dynamic Capabilities Theory, enable SMEs to adapt to rapidly changing environments. The research emphasizes that wartime crises test and redefine traditional strategic management practices. It concludes with policy recommendations, including targeted financial support, public-private partnerships, and integrating digital tools to bolster SME resilience and adaptability. This study contributes to the academic discourse on crisis management and offers practical insights for enterprises operating in conflict zones globally. It underlines the critical role of strategic redeployment in achieving both survival and long-term growth.
