dc.description.abstract
Solids with a two-dimensional shape but only a few nanometers thickness are in the focus of scientific interest following the discovery of graphene. Single layers were successfully exfoliated from other layered solids, and new methods for the production and stabilization of 2D nanostructures were developed. Taking metal dichalcogenides, hexagonal boron nitride, silicene and transition metal carbide/nitride phases (MXenes) as examples, this article introduces synthesis methods and properties of 2D-materials.
