Hybride urbane Strukturen - Potentielle Entwicklung des Margaretengürtel

Abstract

Diese Diplomarbeit erforscht die städtebauliche Situation des Margaretengürtels in Wien. Angesichts der Reurbanisierung und der wachsenden Nachfrage nach privaten und öffentlichen Räumen wird untersucht, wie mithilfe von hybriden Strukturen ein nachhaltiger und zukunftsfähiger Entwurf für dieses Gebiet entstehen kann.Ziel ist es, eine Bebauungstypologie für das Areal am Margaretengürtel zu entwickeln, welche eine Verbindung von Wohnen, Arbeiten und Freizeit ermöglicht und in Kombination mit neuen Naturräumen eine hohe Lebensqualität für die Lokalbevölkerung bietet.Die Methodik basiert auf der Analyse der bestehenden räumlichen und funktionalenurbanen Struktur des Gebietes. Die daraus resultierenden Entwurfskriterien bestimmen die Rahmenbedingungen für den architektonischen Entwurf.Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass eine Erweiterung der Südbahntrasse mit einer darüberliegenden Stadtebene eine potenzielle Entwicklung bietet. Mithilfe von anpassungsfähigen Strukturen über den Gleisen kann ein neues Stadtquartiergeschaffen werden, welches die ökologische, soziale und wirtschaftliche Stabilität des umliegenden Gebiets stärken kann.Im Fokus stehen: die vielschichtige Nutzung homogen genutzter Flächen, insbesondere die der Südbahnstrecke, die Schaffung von neuen Naturräumen und die Verbindung benachbarter Stadtteile. Es wird gezeigt, dass die Weiterentwicklung der Bahntrasse nicht nur die bauliche Dichte erhöht, sondern auch das Stadtklima und die Lebensqualität der Bewohner verbessern kann.Abschließend wird die Notwendigkeit betont, städtebauliche Konzepte zu entwickeln, die flexibel auf die sich wandelnden Bedürfnisse der Stadtbewohner*innen reagieren und so zur nachhaltigen urbanen Entwicklung beitragen.

This thesis explores the urban development context of the Margaretengürtel area in Vienna. In light of reurbanization and the growing demand for private and public spaces, it examines how hybrid structures can contribute to the creation of a sustainable and future-proof urban district in this area.The objective was to develop a building typology for the Margaretengürtel site that integrates living, working, and leisure activities, while offering high-quality living conditions for the local population through the incorporation of new natural spaces.The methodology is based on an analysis of the existing spatial and functional urban structure of the area. The resulting design criteria define the framework for the architectural concept.The findings indicate that an extension of the Südbahn railway line with an overlying urban level offers significant development potential. Through the use of adaptable structures above the tracks, a new urban district has the potential to strengthen theecological, social, and economic stability of the surrounding area.The focus is on: introducing multi-layered uses to homogeneously utilized areas, particularly the Südbahn rail corridor; creating new natural spaces; and connecting neighboring districts. The study demonstrates that further development of the railway corridor does not only increase urban density but also improves the city’s climate and the quality of life for residents.Finally, the study emphasizes the necessity of developing urban planning concepts that can flexibly adapt to the evolving needs of city inhabitants, thereby contributing to sustainable urban development.
