Modezentrum Wien : ein Zentrum für nachhaltige Mode, Ausstellung und Begegnung

Abstract

Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit behandelt den Entwurf eines Modezentrums im 2. Wiener Gemeindebezirk, dem Nordbahnhofviertel. Im Fokus steht die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Material Loden (einem regional produzierten, nachhaltigen Textil), das im Zentrum von Ausstellungen und Modeschauen steht. Ziel ist es, einen Ort zu schaffen, an dem Mode als Ausdruck von Material, Raum und Gesellschaft erlebt werden kann – jenseits von Fast Fashion und Konsumlogik.Der Entwurf reagiert sowohl inhaltlich als auch räumlich auf das textile Thema: Die Räume im Inneren sind nicht fix definiert, sondern durch textile Vorhänge flexibel unterteilbar. So entstehen anpassbare Raumkonfigurationen, die je nach Veranstaltung oder Ausstellung unter-schiedlich genutzt werden können. Die Architektur bleibt dadurch durchlässig, fließend und veränderbar, ähnlich einem Stoff, der auf Bewegung reagiert. Auch die Ausstellungsräume folgen diesem Prinzip: Sie können als kleine, intime Einheiten funktionieren oder zu größeren Flächen geöffnet werden. Diese räumliche Flexibilität wird durch eine klare, offene Tragstruktur ermöglicht. Nach außen kommuniziert das Gebäude seine Funktion über eine zweite, stoffartig gefaltete Metallhülle, die die Glasfassade umschließt. Sie erinnert an ein gewebtes Textil, filtert das Licht, schafft Tiefe und macht das Thema Mode und Material sichtbar. Das Modezentrum versteht sich als kultureller Impulsgeber für das Viertel und als Plattform für nachhaltige, lokale Modeproduktion. Mit seinem räumlich dynamischen und atmosphärisch vielschichtigen Konzept trägt es zur Neupositionierung von Mode in Wien bei.

This diploma project focuses on the design of a fashion center located in Vienna’s 2nd district, the Nordbahnhof area. At the heart of the concept is the exploration of Loden, a regionally produced and sustainable textile, which becomes the central theme of exhibitions and fashion shows. The project aims to create a space where fashion can be experienced as an expression of material, space, and society – beyond the logic of fast fashion and consumption. The architectural design responds both thematically and spatially to the idea of fabric: the interior spaces are not rigidly defined but can be flexibly partitioned with textile curtains. This allows for adaptable spatial configurations that can change depending on the function – whether exhibition or fashion event. The architecture becomes fluid, permeable, and transformable, much like fabric that reacts to movement. The exhibition spaces follow the same principle: they can function as small, intimate zones or be opened up into larger areas. This spatial flexibility is made possible by a clear and open structural system.Externally, the building communicates its identity through a second fabric-like metal skin that wraps around the glazed facade. This outer layer evokes a woven textile, filters light, adds depth, and makes the themes of fashion and materiality visible to the outside. The fashion center acts as a cultural catalyst within the neighborhood and as a platform for sustainable, local fashion production. Through its spatially dynamic and atmospherically rich concept, it contributes to redefine the role of fashion in Vienna.
