2-phenyl-pyrazol-3-ones, have been prepared and characterized by NMR, IR, ESI-MS and UV-vis spectroscopies, elemental and thermal analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Photophysical properties of title complexes were studied both in solutions and solid state. Complexes displayed strong blue luminescent emissions (QY = 4.8- 22.9 %) in the solid state and weak emissions in solution. Moreover, an excitation-dependent emission due to retarded rotation around the C=N bond is observed for the complex with benzyl azomethine derivative. For complexes with propyl, butyl and benzyl substituents thin-film electroluminescent devices producing blue emission with brightness up to 4700 Cd/m2 have been obtained.
