dc.description.abstract
This paper offers an overview of the process of developing transition matrices to forecast road pavement conditions of a network. These conditions are commonly described via indices/measurements such as the International Roughness Index (IRI), Rutting (RUT), or Cracking (CRK). Transition matrices allow for a versatile approach to forecasting pavement conditions, because they describe the deterioration of the pavements over time, while simultaneously facilitating the evaluation of the effect of planned interventions. Consequently, this method is potentially a valuable tool for decision making.
